Liturgy comes from the Greek word leitourgia meaning “the work of the people;” Here at Divine Word we have seven ministries staffed through the work of our parish members. Each Tab to your left will help you better understand these Ministries and give a contact person if you feel called to join one of these Ministries
Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion
After receiving preparation provided by the Diocese and then by Divine Word, Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion assist in the distribution of Communion at Mass. Our Extraordinary Ministers also have the opportunity to bring Communion to the homebound in our parish and to our local nursing homes and hospitals.

Lectors
The Lector ministry is an integral part of the celebration of the Mass. Thorough preparation is provided for those called to this ministry of proclaiming God’s Word. Lectors are entrusted to prepare themselves to read at their assigned liturgy.

Time Commitment:
- An annual schedule is established for cleaning the church and preparing linens
- The church is cleaned every other week and linens are washed and ironed weekly
- Sacristans work in teams of two to three persons
- Each team typically needs 1 1/2 hours to clean the church every fourth to sixth week
- Individual sacristans wash and iron the linens as scheduled. It typically requires two hours to complete this task
- Preparing the altar and washing the vessels requires the sacristan to arrive at least 15 minutes before Mass and to remain 15 minutes or so after Mass
Greeter / Usher

The Ushers Prayer
Lord, In your love you gather your people this day.
Help me to serve them in a Christ-like manner,
even as your son Jesus served those who gathered about Him.
Make me prayerful, patient, helpful and understanding, and
may I radiate the joy that faith brings as I serve their needs. Give me your strength to support my fellow ministers.
May all who assemble to celebrate our common faith in the risen Savior be glad of heart for being here
and having encountered your Son in one another
and in our priests at the table of the book and the bread,
and through the ministry of ushers like me.
I ask this in Jesus’ name. AMEN.
