What is Confirmation?
Confirmation is a Sacrament of Initiation; the others are Baptism and Eucharist. In this sacrament we are anointed with oil in a “laying on of hands,” and imprinted with a spiritual seal. The sacrament of Confirmation is necessary for the completion of baptismal grace, and therefore cannot be separated from Baptism.
As a Sacrament of Initiation, Confirmation binds us more completely to the church, enriching us with a special strength of the Holy Spirit. While Baptism brings new life, Confirmation strengthens the initial commitment made and confers and seals the fullness of the Holy Spirit. This enables us to better serve God, the Christian community and all people.
At Confirmation, the gifts of the Holy Spirit conferred at Baptism are strengthened and sealed. These gifts are: wisdom, understanding, knowledge, right judgment, courage, reverence, and wonder and awe in God’s presence.
8th Grade Confirmation
At Divine Word, 8th grade students prepare for Confirmation through the 8th grade PSR program. Preparation includes Tuesday evening classes, service hours within the community, and concludes with a Spirit Day retreat, which inspires students as they complete the final weeks of focused preparation leading up to Confirmation Day.

- Bring completed registration form and payment to the parent meeting in October, drop off in the rectory, Tanya Loncar’s office in Hanson Hall, or mail to Divine Word Church attn: Confirmation 8100 Eagle Rd. Kirtland OH 44094
- Please make all checks payable to “Divine Word Church”.
- Registration forms will also be available at the parent meeting on October 13th and at PSR on Tuesday evenings beginning in September.
